Abide in Me

Abide in Me
John 15:4

Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me.

What does discipleship look like at this stage?

Continuing to be powered by God’s transformational grace, you are characterized by one major development beyond the previous stage — the degree of your SURRENDER to Christ. Where as in prior stages, your growth in this stage in deeply motivated by your love for Christ.

At this stage you are letting Christ have the keys to be the “driver” of your life. Your love for trust in Christ is so deep that you obey Christ even without having to understand the “why” first or even to know, “What’s in it for me.” You exhibit the highest rate of participation in personal spiritual practices to deepen your connection with God. You have learned to feed yourself spiritually through your personal spiritual practices. From the church you are looking for continued help with discernment of God’s will more than direction for your personal growth. You are serving others on your own, without needing encouragement from a church program. You are deeply self-giving and generous.

And you’re probably not willing to recognize anything special about your progress on the journey because you are aware of how far you have yet to go. This stage’s disciples have a lot to give others as mentors, group leaders, and serving leaders.

  1. Be a Leader – Lead a ministry, discover your passion and invite others to join you
  2. Live Generously – Go outside of your comfort zone to help others. Surrender yourself completely in God’s love. Pray the Wesleyan Covenant Prayer.
